15th Royal Langkawi International Regatta 2017
9-14 Jan 2017

Since its inception in 2003 this International Regatta draws foreign and local professional sailors to the tropical island of Langkawi. This event attracts 30 entries namely from Singapore, Thailand, UK, Hong Kong, USA, Russian Federation, Denmark and Australia as a new entry. They will be competing in 8 racing classes and the champion will be awarded The Tunku Abdullah Sportsmanship Award.

1st Langkawi Football League

15 Jan - 15 Apr 2017

Local football players will be able to demonstrate their skill and talent at the Langkawi Football League Cup Tournament. Teams from 6 Mukim of Langkawi will gather at the Langkawi Sports Complex to compete for the Langkawi Parliamentary Cup and the LADA CEO Cup.

KFC Langkawi International Regatta Perdana
5-10 Feb 2017

Aimed to nurture new and young talents in sailing. This year’s event will be held from 8th -12th February. These young sailors were exposed to a lot of valuable experiences as they have sailed in numerous sailing conditions in Langkawi. The valuable experience and important lesson will help them excel at the international youth competition.

Langkawi Chinese New Year Special

Malaysia as a multiracial country provides an opportunity for other races to celebrate harmoniously as Chinese usher to their new year. The celebration marks another year of  a prosperous life. It is a must-attend event to strengthen unity among Malaysians. This is the year of the Rooster, the tenth animal in the cycle. The next Year of the Rooster will be in 2029.

Langkawi Squid Challenge
10-11 March 2017

Come March, Langkawi is the right place to get yourself jigging as many squid as you can while winning attractive prizes. At night, the brightly lit Andaman Sea attracts the squids  to the surface while participants enjoy the calm and cool sea breeze. An unforgettable experience to the newcomers and surely for regulars.

Langkawi Netball League
15 March - 15 April 2017

The netball tournament will foster closer relationship among the ladies in the communities. This will encourage a healthy life style and the first ever tournament to be held on the island competing for LADA Puspanita Cup.

Langkawi International Maritime & Aerospace Exhibition (LIMA)
21-25 March 2017

This biannual event was first held in 1991, since then LIMA has become the most influential military exhibition in Asia to showcase the advance and latest hardware capability. Trade fair on aerospace and marine equipment will also be held at MIEC and Awana Cruise Jetty in March. With over 500 exhibitors, 65 ships and 110 aircrafts from 36 countries, certainly LIMA is an event not to be missed.

Tuba Trail Run
8 April 2017

Due to an overwhelming respond from the local and international participants, The Tuba Trail Run is back for more with a new set of difficult challenging courses and trails. Set in a less explored wilderness of Tuba and Dayang Bunting Island, contestants are to pass through some of Langkawi natural wonders and amazing landscape while challenging their strength and stamina. The 2017 edition includes three categories namely, 4 kilometers, 15 kilometers and 30 kilometers routes.

FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour
14 - 16 April 2017

Malaysia will be hosting its first FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour by the beach. With 32 top male and female beach volleyball players from over 16 countries competing for the country’s first title. Langkawi will be the only ASEAN nation to host the tournament and it is sanctioned by the Federation Internationale de Volleyball.

The Royal Langkawi Classic Car Show
21 - 23 April 2017

The first ever Langkawi Classic Car Show will be held at MIEC Hall. Bringing an international standard showcase such as this to Langkawi will definitely attract vintage and classic car enthusiasts around the world and it will eventually be highlighted in the international motoring calendar of event. The show will also feature Langkawi Flea market as a new product for antics and collectibles lovers.

Langkawi International Jet Ski Time Attack
21 - 23 April 2017

The Langkawi International Jet Ski Time Attack will be held in Langkawi, as one of the water sports events. Langkawi will host this 2 days of epic jet ski game to international and local teams and is expected to attract spectators from inside and outside of Langkawi.

BDB Climb & Run
22 April 2017

The BDB Climb & Run will be held in Lubuk Semulang, Gunung Raya, Langkawi. Langkawi will host this 1 day of this sports to international and local runners and is expected to attract spectators from inside and outside of Langkawi.

1st Matchinchang Skybridge Climb
6 May 2017

In the response to the race within nature, participants are to explore the trail to be opened exclusively for the race day, these 4.5 kilometers climb finishes at the summit of the legendary Mat Chinchang Mountain which takes participants through the Middle Station, SkyBridge, and Top Station of the cable car.

Regional Workshop on Sustainable Tourism Destination
8-12 May 2017

The concept of Sustainable Development championed by the Global Geoparks Network (GGN) is proven to be one of the most successful models in sustainable regional development. The increasing number of applications enrolling for GGN membership is the solid evidence of the acceptance of the concept. Tailing form the increasing number of Global Geoparks, there is a need to ensure that the true GGN concept of sustainable development is cascaded down to the geopark managers/administrators. This certainly will increase sustainability of a Geopark, but this is a huge task for Geopark managers. In order to achieve this noble goal having a Sustainable Geopark Management is crucial. The vast differences in the developmental status of GGN members between the European and the Asia Pacific geoparks may lead to different issues and challenges that required specific attentions. Hence, there is a pressing need to connect all the Geopark  Managers in this region to share their experience, challenges, and best practices in steering their respective Geoparks towards achieving sustainable development goal visioned by the Geopark Concept.

Royal Langkawi International Bike Fest 2017
12-14 May 2017

The Royal Langkawi International Bike Fest is initiated to be an important major festival within the Asian region. First of its kind, The Fest will continuously to be an annual biker’s event in Langkawi. This year the show will see more than bikers from Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia and Singapore.

An event that promotes awareness and aims to establish a venue for Malaysian and International riders to further interact and promote bike safety practices and professional handling of motorcycle as a sport and hobby.

This programme will host almost all major bike brands & models in motorsport. It will be a platform that showcases bike accessories, new equipment, technical breakthroughs, international exhibitors, as well as a venue for international bikers to socialize and network.

Musabaqah Tilawah Al Quran
15-17 May 2017

For the first time, Langkawi is to organizing the Tilawah Al Quran. The main objective is to encourage the growth, love and interest in Al-Quran reading while at the same time boosting and enhancing a higher quality in Al-Quran recitation.

Langkawi International Fishing Tournament (LIFT)
19-20 May 2017

This sport fishing tournament is set to make a comeback with more exciting and attracting features and prizes. Entries are expected to be from nearby countries namely Thailand, Singapore, Indonesia and as far as Australia. The unexpected sea condition and catch, challenges the participants to land heaviest and bigger fish for cash prizes. Join in to endure a different kind of experience and memory to cherish later.

Geopark Day
1st June 2017

Langkawi’s Geopark is noteworthy in its array of impressive rock formations surrounded by ancient jungle, vast caves with stalactites and stalagmites, winding mangrove reveries, sea caves and tunnels, wildlife and waterfalls. Over 90 geo-sites have been found in the region but there are three distinct areas that form the Langkawi Geopark, each with its own unique geological significance.

Langkawi Aidilfitri Special

Aidilfitri marks the end of the fasting month of Ramadan, the Islamic month of fasting and the beginning of Syawal, where it is time to celebrate, to ask for forgiveness, reconcile and renew relationships with others. Various foods, cakes, sweets, biscuits and other delicacies will be served on the day. Delicacies such as ketupat, lemang and rendang are among the most famous cuisines that can be found at Langkawi Aidilfitri Special to be held in July.

SEA Games
17 - 30 August 2017

The 29th Southeast Asian Games or commonly known as SEA Games 2017 is a regional multi-sport event that will take place in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia from 19th to 31th August 2017. Representative from 11 countries will participate in this 6th time Southeast Asian Games being held in Malaysia. The National Sailing Centre, Langkawi was chosen to be the main venue for the sailing event. The 29th Sea Games Sailing Event will comprise of 14 categories.

Langkawi Fest 2017
26 - 31 August 2017

The festival will feature the multicultural society and ethnic tradition of the island. The Pantai Chenang Street Parade will be the highlight of the festival in conjunction with Kedah Art and Cultural month and the celebration of 60th independence day.Langkawi Fest is set to transform this typical tranquil island into a vibrant hub filled with live music, cultural performances, food markets and colorful decorations.

The Langkawi International Jet Ski Endurance will be held in Langkawi, as one of the water sports events. Langkawi will host this 3 days of epic jet ski game to international and local teams and is expected to attract spectators from inside and outside of Langkawi.

Langkawi International Kite Festival

The Langkawi sky will be decorated with colorful kites of all sizes and shapes during the Langkawi International Kite Festival in September. It is an international level yet colorful and magnificent event not to be missed.

Kedah Royal Muay Thai International Championship
5 Oktober 2017

Come October, an event that is set to return to Langkawi for another year with more exciting challenges in the ring. Muay Thai is a combat sport which uses striking and various clinching techniques. The physical and mental discipline includes combat on shins known as “the art of eight limbs” the combined usage of fists, elbows, knees, shins and a good physical preparation which makes a fighter very efficient.

Langkawi Deepavali Special

Deepavali or Diwali is a celebration that spiritually signifies the victory of light over darkness, good over evil, knowledge over ignorance, and hope over despair. Its celebration includes lighting of lights shining on housetops, outside doors, around temples and other buildings in the communities. The Indians will dress up in new clothes or their best outfit, then gather to a family feast and an exchange of gifts between family members and close friends.

Sail Malaysia Passage To Langkawi
26 - 28 October 2017

An exciting regatta originates from Darwin, Australia passing several tropical islands in Malacca Straits, while making port of call at several harbours along the way before reaching Langkawi. The objective of this event is to attract yachters discover Malaysia by sea.  Although the west coast of Peninsula Malaysia has been well documented since 2004, with Sail Malaysia Passage program, yachters will be quickly familiarized with the region as well as getting to know the local hosts on a more enjoyable and personable manner.

IRONMAN Langkawi
11 November 2017

This event will be the 4th Ironman Malaysia in Langkawi to be organized since 2011. About 1,200 athletes will compete in the enduring of 3.8km swimming, 42km running and 182km cycling. Winners to be crowned a world a true Ironman and qualify among 40 athletes for the Ironman World Championship in Kailua Kona, Hawaii. This is among the toughest event on earth!

Raja Muda Selangor International Regatta 2017
17 - 25 November 2017

A challenging offshore sailing race organized annually by The Royal Selangor Yacht Club since 1989. The event starts from Port Klang to Pangkor, Penang and ends in Langkawi in November. Known for its unpredictable wind, weather and tide, the regatta provides excitement and experience to the sailors along with interesting challenges. In addition, the participants will have the opportunity to do sightseeing and involve in social events at every stop.

Langkawi Tourism Awards
25 November 2017

The Annual Langkawi Tourism Award is recognition from the Government to leaders in the tourism industry. The Awards also encourage tourism players to meet and strive to higher the standards in 6 categories and 24 sub categories. The awards play an integral role in rewarding business excellence, innovation, industry professionalism, collaborations and initiatives. Awards are announced at the Gala Ceremony, where industry players gather to celebrate their achievement.

1st Langkawi International Bird Fair
1 - 3 December 2017

The Langkawi International Bird Fair objectives are to highlight and showcase the different breeds of birds across Asia while promoting the protection of birds and their habitats, encourage birdwatching and other ecotourism activities.
Langkawi makes the perfect location for this event to be held in December as Langkawi Island is home to 221 different breeds of birds with the coastal area consisting of limestone ridges, with an extensive surface area of forest covered mountains, hills and natural vegetation.

Tanjung Rhu Swimfest
9 December 2017

Tanjung Rhu Swimfest is an open water swimming competition and available in 3 categories namely 2km, 4km and 6km race. It is tailored specially for beginners or professional swimmers. The Swimfest starts at Tanjung Rhu beach, participants will be swimming close to the international waters, a unique way to experience Malaysia and Thailand territory in a single location.

Langkawi Island Music Festival
22 - 24 December 2017

The highlights of the festival are the performances from the islands like Fiji, Guam and Papa New Guinea. The festival aims to promote Langkawi through music as an eco-friendly holiday destination and to encourage the local community to keep the island clean and green at all times. Activities focused on protecting the environment will be organized throughout the day. There is a need to convince the local islanders that their survival and prosperity depend upon keeping the island clean and that the island’s development must be sustainable.

Langkawi International Badminton Tournament
December 2017

Langkawi set to organize an international individual badminton tournament at the Langkawi Sports Complex in Kuah. Players from China, Germany, Taiwan, Thailand, Indonesia and Singapore will be invited to participate in this tournament which will be the first of its kind on this resort island.

Cash prizes and sports equipment will be given out to winners in all the events.
