M8 Malaysia Pushbike GP Series 2-2024

M8 Malaysia Pushbike GP Series 2-2024

The sport of balance bike, or pushbike, is rapidly gaining popularity in Malaysia, offering a unique activity that significantly shapes the mental and physical development of participating children. Despite being relatively new, this sport has established its own club that organizes various events both domestically and internationally.

Pushbike is a sport on the rise, with its development in Malaysia influencing neighboring countries and extending to nations like Indonesia, Thailand, Singapore, Vietnam, the Philippines, China, Japan, and the USA. The first series held on June 9, 2024, at the Petronas Sepang International Circuit attracted over 400 entries. The M8 Cycling Club, having successfully organized this event more than five times since 2022, has seen increased participation with each iteration.

Plans are underway to make this an annual event featured in LADA’s calendar, with an Asian-level event next year and a world-level event in the following year, leveraging Langkawi’s international appeal. This large-scale event aligns with the governmentโ€™s goals for Visit Kedah Year 2025 and Visit Malaysia Year 2026, potentially boosting tourism and the economy.

The most captivating aspect is the participation of children under the age of 9, competing in 9 categories based on age, starting as early as 2 years old. This sport garners attention at various levels and is seen as a platform to cultivate highly competitive children who could become future athletes in cycling and motor sports. The involvement of parents in encouraging their children in sports from a young age can have a long-term positive impact on the nation.

Here are the competition categories:
1. 2021 (mix)
2. 2020
3. 2019 (mix)
4. 2018 (mix)
5. 2017 (mix)
6. 2016 (mix)
7. Open boy (2015-2017)
8. Open girl (2015-2017)
9. Super race (mix)

The Ministry of Youth and Sports (KBS) aims to make Pushbike a foundational sport for children, developing athletes for cycling and motor sports. This initiative promises a bright future for the sport.
