Machinchang Cambrian Geoforest Park

Portfolio Description

Description

Machinchang Cambrian Geoforest Park is the area covering the Machinchang Permanent Forest Reserve in the northwest of Langkawi. The rock layers here represent the oldest sedimentary rock formation in Southeast Asia, known as the Machinchang Formation aged Cambrian Period (550-505 million years). These rock layers also form the mountain range of Machinchang, which is famous for the legend of the fight between Mat Chinchang and Mat Raya.

The major attraction of the Machinchang Cambrian Geoforest Park is the view point located at the peak of Machinchang where visitors can have a 360-degree view of Langkawi Islands and Tarutao Island, one of the geosites of Satun UNESCO Global Geopark. To reduce the impact on the environment, a 700-m-high cable car was built from the Cable Car Complex at its base, which is located at the Oriental Village. Visitors can enjoy the natural beauty of Langkawi while riding a cable car to Machinchang’s peak.
